Engineering Manager (PV Systems)

The Engineering Manager will work with a team of Design Engineers, Project Managers, and Engineering Consultants to design, review, and approve designs for commercial, government, and utility solar PV projects. The candidate will also be responsible for managing the Design Engineering Group. The Design Engineering Group designs rooftop and ground mounted solar arrays, generating full sets of construction documents to support our in-house development/ project management/construction teams.

Duties and Responsibilities

•Responsible for all aspects of project engineering; ensuring they are executed accurately, to the highest of standards, and in a timely and cost effective manner
•Manage engineering department - assign and prioritize their work load
•Maintain responsible control over all design activities pertaining to the project, including engineering, quality control, and code compliance
•Preparation and creation of detailed solar racking and electrical designs for rooftop systems and free standing ground-mounted solar arrays in both low voltage and high voltage systems
•Identify project requirements based on the electric utility interconnect agreements, contracts, regulatory requirements, etc and design components to address the site-specific requirements
•Manage the creation of AutoCAD drawing packages
•Manage and create Bills of Materials for projects
•Develop controls and SCADA for PV plant and remote control capability and compliance
•Generate, review, sign and seal engineering deliverables in a timely manner
•Ensure preparation of the design’s calculations and engineering drawings is constructible, passes permitting, and assists subcontractors in preparing accurate cost estimates
•Manage engineering consultants for calculations, drawing packages, professional stamps, and value engineering
•Represent GeoPeak in project meetings covering technical issues, including meetings with the public and regulatory authorities, utilities, engineering firms, owners, contractors, construction subcontractors, and inspectors
•Conduct or attend project meetings and conference calls
•Schedule and lead engineering review meetings
•Track project design schedules and coordinate with Project Management group to ensure expectations are set correctly and designs are submitted on time
•Develop and maintain standard drawing templates based on released products; direct staff in updating various documents and standards
•Safeguard GeoPeak intellectual property, proprietary designs, templates, and engineering work
•Use understanding of construction logistics, site preparation, material and labor costs to optimize designs
•Travel to project sites as required to perform electrical site surveys and electrical witness tests with project managers, electricians and delivery managers
•Perform quality control/quality assurance on group work product, including checking drawings and specifications prior to release
•Work in conjunction and coordinate with Sales Leads, Project Managers, and other project participants
•Assist development team and construction Project Managers with design related questions, responding to RFIs
•On an ongoing basis, provide support to commissioning and O&M, as needed

Requirements

•Minimum 6-10 years of solid electrical, PV design and engineering experience
•Licensed Professional Engineer preferred.
•Strong understanding of all relevant codes including a demonstrated experience with utility networks across the country
•Ability to work independently and effectively with project managers, clients, consulting engineers, design, and technical personnel as well as manufacturing partners
•Ability to take direction from the management team
•Must be confident; possess the ability to substantiate code interpretations and mathematically prove design concepts
•The successful candidate must be a high energy, resourceful, and organized engineering professional
•The ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects is a must
•Experience drafting or reviewing engineering services contracts
•Solid written and oral communication skills are a must
•Proficiency with AutoCAD, PVSYST, PVWatts, Solmetric, MS Project, MS Excel experience and Google SketchUp
•Experience with cost estimation of designs and value engineering
•Experience with web-based PV monitoring systems such as AlsoEnergy and DECK Monitoring
•Have the experience to create engineering teams and motivate them to achieve their highest proficiency and lead by example
•Must be able to identify problems, find and develop solutions, make decisions and execute them effectively
•NABCEP Installer certification a plus

Senior Electrical Design Engineer (PV Systems)

The Senior Electrical Design Engineer will conduct site evaluations and design systems for residential and large-scale commercial projects as a part of the Design Engineering Group. The Design Engineering Group designs rooftop and ground mounted solar arrays, generating full sets of construction documents to support our in-house construction project management team. The candidate will work under the Engineering Manager with a team of Design Engineers, Project Managers, and Engineering Consultants to design, review, and approve designs for residential, commercial, government, and utility solar PV projects.

•Preparation and creation of detailed solar racking and electrical designs for rooftop systems and free standing ground-mounted solar arrays in both low voltage and high voltage systems

Senior PV Systems Designer

The Senior PV Systems Designer will work with a team of Engineers, Project Managers, and Engineering Consultants to design commercial, government, and utility solar PV projects. The Senior PV Systems Designer will also develop and design preliminary and detailed layouts to assist with proposal preparation, client presentations, and basis for detailed engineering.

Duties and Responsibilities

•Design commercial and utility scale PV systems that are compliant with all applicable codes and company guidelines, including roof mounts, parking canopies, and ground mounts, using Google SketchUp and AutoCad
•Design 3D models for client presentations and proposals
•Develop PV system layouts and renderings to support the project development and engineering teams
•Perform shading analysis for projects using site observations, drawings, Google Sketchup, Solar Pathfinder, and other data points
•Model PV system performance using different solar modeling tools, including PVWatts, PVSYST, NREL SAM, etc
•Use AutoCAD LT, PVsyst, SketchUp, and Excel and other software tools
•Work with GeoPeak Energy teams to ensure clients’ needs and internal deadlines are met
•Assist and train junior level PV system designers

Requirements

•3-5 years experience designing Solar PV systems required
•Experience with Google Sketchup, AutoCad, PVSYST, and PVWatts required
•Knowledge of photovoltaic and electrical design concepts required
•NABCEP certification preferred, but not required
•Experience with Adobe Suite, video editing, and webpage design preferred
•Experience with Adobe Illustrator CS5, Photoshop CS5, Adobe Indesign CS5 preferred
•Can-do attitude and interpersonal communication skills required
•Ability to perform independently and in a team environment
